The Manaslu Region is a breathtaking place largely untracked. Its views boast some of the most beautiful in the world with small villages dotting the hillsides. The area belongs to Tibeto-Burman and Gurung-Bhote communities who primarily practice Buddhism with some Hinduism especially in the lower hills. It remains culturally and naturally rich with age-old traditions holding strong.
Manaslu means “mountain of the spirit”. As you embark on this journey into the Himalaya, you won’t return the same. It’s not only the breathtaking peaks watching over as you trek, but the humanity below that will open your eyes to a way of life not quite your own. We encourage you to take the time to visit with the people – speaking is not always necessary. Watch as the low valley clouds envelope the trees as you walk ridgelines and over suspension bridges looking down into deep ravines. This is a land that you have been given permission to catch a glimpse into their way of life.
Next Humanitarian Trip May 1-17th 2019 (Spaces still available)

HUMANITARIAN
In 2015, Cody & Cherise Tuttle (Founders of Inverted Life LLC) experienced the largest earthquake Nepal had encountered in a century. It shook the nation killing thousands, wounding many more, and displacing millions. While documenting the emergency aid efforts in the Manaslu region, Cody came across a man days away from death. In a matter of hours, he and his team were able to evacuate this man and over the next few months worked with local NGO, Karma Flights, to ensure his hospital bills were covered and that he was safely returned back to his home in Sama Gaon once recovered. This is when we learned more of the oppressive caste system still affecting Nepal’s society today.
Cody & Cherise decided to go back to their small village and film a documentary telling the story of this small family in hopes of reaching a larger audience with their message. This family is part of the Untouchables or Dalit caste. They are of the lowest caste – often not even counted as human. The film, Nyima, was completed earlier this year and money is currently being raised to purchase a plot of land in their village. They are on borrowed land causing even more turmoil between them and the villages – especially after the father passed away due to lack of medical care once back from the hospital. With ownership comes belonging. With their own plot of land, they will be able to own their own livestock and plant their own food giving them sustainability.
